On Saturday we attended the homegoing celebration for Kim Bellamy. The church was filled to overflowing, evidence of her life touching so many other lives. There were many remarkable things about the service, but a few stand out to me. Her sister shared that on Monday, Kim said to them a few times, “Jesus has to help me.” Her sister said, “He is”. Her sister sensed that Kim was battling inside b/c she didn’t want to leave her dear husband Howard or her children. Her sister told her that they would be OK, that it was OK for her to let go. Kim then said, “Jesus, come take me.” She went to be with the Lord that very day – absent from the body, but in the presence of her precious Lord whom she had served her whole life.
Her dear friend Evelyn, before her song, said, “With all due respect to you musicians who are here, my accompanist is lying right there.” They had played and worshipped together for so many years. Evelyn sang an amazing tribute, reflecting Kim’s heart, “To God Be the Glory”.
Her husband Howard shared that he was really OK. He had battled w/ the Lord about why He was taking his wife at the young age of 50. He had his struggles and doubts, but he could confidently say that day that the Lord is good, and all that He does is good. He gave a beautiful tribute to his wife, out of Proverbs 31. She was a woman of prayer, often rising at 5:30 to intercede for people.
Her son told all the 20-year-olds who still have their moms to appreciate them. He said he was blessed with the best mom in the world.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” Prov. 31:28-30
Kim Bellamy was a woman who feared the Lord. I’m glad to have known her.
